1985 में David Deutsch ने वह paper प्रकाशित किया जिसने इस field की नींव रखी — “Quantum theory, the Church–Turing principle and the universal quantum computer।”
\[i\hbar\,\frac{\partial}{\partial t}|\psi\rangle = H|\psi\rangle,\]
Born rule,
\[P(\text{outcome } i) = |\langle i|\psi\rangle|^2,\]
The Fabric of Reality
उनका सुधार: “A quantum computer is NOT like a massively-parallel classical computer! Exponentially-many basis states, but you only get to observe one of them. Any hope for a speedup rides on the magic of quantum interference.” पूरे field के लिए Aaronson का नारा: quantum computing “probability theory with minus signs” है।

- Aaronson का counterweight: quantum computer massively-parallel classical machine नहीं है — speedup interference पर टिका है (“probability theory with minus signs”), और supremacy experiments interpretation बहस में कुछ नया नहीं जोड़ते।
